Grew up there 1954-1975 and for a short time we lived a block south of the park. Loved the Japanese Tea Garden the most, many school field trips to the planetarium and we took our kids to the park when we would visit family. Anyone remember that big indoor pond filled with alligators in the Science building? 🐊🐊

TL:DR - You can ride the Lilly Belle a bit more easily as of about a month ago! As someone who recently went to Disneyland I should preface this by saying that I’ve dreamed of riding the Lilly Belle train car for years…like, since I discovered it existed. But I always knew it was restricted to VERY important people. Hence, I’ve held a certain extreme ambition for YEARS related to that train car. I’ve GOT to either join Club 33 or become SO important they’ll invite me along to take a ride! When I was in Disneyland I got a nice little touch of surprise in that the Lilly Belle was running on my first day in the park! So I took a picture by it and sent it to a friend to point out why I’m so ambitious. Kinda just a “here, this is why I have to spend like $70k a year eventually or achieve some crazy stuff” or whatever. Come to find out there’s a tour that lets you aboard the Lilly Belle, as per said friend…and I got to take that tour two days later. The tour is I believe just called the Railroad Tour and runs what I believe is just about every day. So I got the opportunity to take my first-ever ride on the Disneyland railroad in the car I’d dreamed of riding for YEARS, and my father got to go with me. So yes, dreams do come true, I think I’m the luckiest person on the face of this Earth because the tour started only like a month ago, and you can indeed ride the Lilly Belle!

My Father went to England on the Queen Mary. He had said that he had a bunk in the first class pool. He was on the queen when it hit the British ship and split it in half. Great video, Thanks

having grown up in long beach and attended their schools, we had our high school prom in the queen mary’s grand ballroom. such a great, elegant, and memorable venue.

An excellent history of the beautiful Princess Louise but very sad she lays to rest in an inaccessible place of the sea. I lived in San Pedro from 1959 to 1979 and when the Princess came to town the beautiful ship was a nice focal point across the main channel of the Harbor across from the now demolished Ports O Call village. The restaurant was very nice with beautiful views, decor, food and staff. I was on the ship twice, once for a celebratory dinner and the other for a New Year’s Eve party. In harbor towns the ships blow their horns at midnight, it has to be the most fun sounds celebrating the new year. Thank you for creating this piece of harbor history.

I went on this tour about 5-6 years ago and remembered them talking about how the city was built up due to its sinking into the mud. I remember the tour guide pointing out glass tile that are street level that offers a disjointed view of people walking above. That was pretty cool!

I lived in Long Beach in the 80s and watched fireworks every night above the Queen Mary in the summer. A reliable source told me that when she came to dock in LB, VIPs from the city were allowed to come in and remove tableware, linens etc. Lucky them. Ive toured down to the engine room. The RMS Olympic would be proud of her successor! Although the honor of leading me down the path to the RMS Queen Mary has to go to the RMS (HMT) Olympic's younger sister, RMS Titanic. It's tough for me to list my top 10 favorite ships. But it's safe to say that the RMS Queen Mary is tied with the Olympic class liners for 1st place! My own grandfather would've been almost 20 years old by the time the RMS Queen Mary was purchased by the US. I'm glad my home country fought tooth and nail to buy her cause there's no way in hell I'd allow for such a crown jewel to be scrapped!
